Breast Augmentation - Incision Placement
I believe that the most major advance in breast augmentation surgery in the past 20 years has been perfecting the approach of hiding the skin incision in the underarm. Incisions can also be successfully made under the nipples or in the crease beneath the breast, but these locations tend to be a bit more noticeable.
However, an underarm incision may not be appropriate for every patient. – those patients with more breast overhang, or a tight lower curvature may need an areolar incision to allow greater control of breast shape. An incision under the breast is usually reserved for those women who require firmer cohesive implants to correct a breast shape that has settled a significant amount.
